Position purpose

The Chief Growth Officer is responsible for building and executing The Nod’s commercial growth strategy across the ecosystem. The CGO owns revenue strategy, market development, sales, business development, strategic partnerships, grants, discretionary funding, commercialization and expansion. The role connects The Nod’s mission and ecosystem assets to sustainable revenue, market access and measurable economic outcomes.

Employed by The Nod Inc., the CGO works across The Nod ecosystem and reports to the CEO. The CGO works with the CMO to convert market demand into qualified commercial opportunities, with the COO on organizational strategy and operating feasibility, and with the CPO on product monetization and market requirements. The CGO does not own brand, marketing campaigns, audience development, day-to-day operations, program delivery, event production or product management.

About The Nod

The Nod is an inclusive economic infrastructure that connects people, businesses and opportunities across Canada. Its ecosystem is not limited to but combines social commerce, media, technology, campaigns, business development accelerators and programs, research and institutional partnerships to expand market access and strengthen economic participation. The Nod Inc. leads the ecosystem’s commercial operations, technology, commerce, media and campaigns, while The Nod Foundation leads public-benefit programming, capacity building, research and community investment.

Executive mandate

The CGO owns how The Nod develops revenue opportunities, enters markets, structures commercial offers and builds commercial and institutional relationships. The CGO creates the commercial architecture for The Nod’s app, magazine, memberships, advertising, sponsorships, campaigns, events, marketplace, licensing, platform activations and other approved revenue streams. The role is accountable for converting qualified demand into a measurable pipeline, closed revenue, recurring income, strategic partnerships, secured discretionary funding and expanded market access.

Growth strategy and revenue planning
  • Develop and maintain The Nod’s ecosystem-wide growth strategy, including markets, customers, revenue streams, channels, pricing, funnels and expansion priorities.
  • Set annual and quarterly revenue targets, growth forecasts, pipeline requirements and conversion assumptions for CEO approval.
  • Translate revenue objectives into clear commercial plans for each approved business line and initiative.
  • Evaluate the commercial viability of proposed products, programs, campaigns and partnerships before significant resources are committed.
  • Work with the COO to ensure growth commitments are operationally achievable and appropriately resourced.
Sales business development and deal leadership
  • Own The Nod’s sales and business-development strategy, pipeline and performance management.
  • Identify, qualify and advance high-value opportunities across corporate, government, institutional, community and entrepreneurial markets.
  • Lead deal strategy, commercial structuring, negotiations, high-value meetings and closing.
  • Establish effective outreach, qualification, proposal, follow-up and closing processes supported by accurate CRM records.
  • Define responsibilities for business-development support, proposal development and operational follow-through.
Revenue streams and commercialization
  • Build and optimize revenue from sponsorships, advertising, memberships, marketplace activity, platform activations, licensing, campaigns, ticketing, premium experiences and other approved offerings.
  • Develop pricing, packaging, value propositions and sales materials for The Nod’s products and ecosystem assets.
  • Create pathways that connect media, technology, programs and campaigns to measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Track revenue performance, unit economics, customer acquisition costs, conversion, retention and lifetime value where applicable.
  • Recommend changes to revenue streams that are underperforming, resource-intensive or commercially unviable.
Strategic partnerships and market expansion
  • Own the development of revenue-generating and market-expanding partnerships with corporations, governments, institutions, funders, ecosystem organizations and strategic collaborators.
  • Structure partnership opportunities around procurement, distribution, market access, sponsorship, licensing, research, technology and ecosystem participation.
  • Build and maintain relationships that create opportunities for The Nod and the businesses it supports.
  • Develop market-entry and national expansion plans supported by evidence, partner capacity and realistic revenue assumptions.
  • Ensure partnership commitments are documented, commercially sound and transferred to the COO for coordinated delivery once approved.
Grants and discretionary funding
  • Own the identification, prioritization and pursuit of grants, contributions and discretionary funding aligned with The Nod’s strategy.
  • Maintain a funding pipeline with eligibility requirements, decision dates, application responsibilities, requested amounts and expected outcomes.
  • Lead or coordinate funding applications, budgets, business cases and supporting materials with input from finance, operations and program leads.
  • Assess funding opportunities for strategic fit, delivery capacity, financial sustainability and restrictions before recommending pursuit.
  • Transfer approved funding agreements and reporting requirements to the COO for implementation, compliance management and reporting.
Fundraising and investor support
  • Support the CEO on fundraising and investor relations.
  • Prepare growth narratives, market analysis, revenue evidence, pipeline information, commercial forecasts and due-diligence materials for fundraising activities.
  • Identify relevant capital relationships and opportunities for the CEO’s consideration and support agreed follow-up.
  • Participate in investor or funder meetings when requested and provide accurate commercial information.
Market intelligence and commercial funnel
  • Define target customer, business, partner and institutional segments based on revenue potential, strategic fit and market evidence.
  • Establish qualification criteria and handoff processes that move marketing-generated demand into the commercial pipeline.
  • Work with the CMO to align demand-generation priorities with approved revenue targets, offers and market segments.
  • Track qualified opportunities from handoff through proposal, negotiation, closing and expansion.
  • Use market evidence, sales results and customer feedback to improve commercial offers, pricing, segments and sales priorities.
Product commercialization
  • Partner with the CPO, who owns product leadership, to define commercial requirements, monetization opportunities and market priorities.
  • Provide evidence on customers, pricing, demand, market segments, partner integrations and revenue potential to inform product decisions.
  • Define the commercial objectives, target segments, offer and pricing inputs for approved products and features; the CMO owns go-to-market campaign execution in coordination with the CPO and COO.
  • Track commercial adoption and recommend improvements without displacing the CPO’s authority over product direction and product management.
Campaign event and media monetization
  • Own the commercial strategy for BTF, RBF, The Nod Magazine and other approved campaigns and activations.
  • Develop the revenue model, pricing and commercial offers for sponsorship, advertising, ticketing, premium experiences, activations and partnerships connected to these assets.
  • Lead sponsorship and advertising sales, commercial negotiations and closing.
  • Provide the CMO with the approved commercial objectives, audiences, offers and partner commitments required for marketing and campaign execution.
  • Secure commercial commitments and provide the COO with complete requirements for operational delivery.
  • The CGO does not own event marketing, audience communications, event planning, production logistics or day-to-day program delivery.
Growth analytics and executive reporting
  • Maintain reliable dashboards covering revenue, commercial pipeline, qualified-opportunity conversion, sales performance, transactions, partnerships, funding and market expansion.
  • Provide the CEO and executive team with concise forecasts, performance reports, risks and recommended actions.
  • Establish clear definitions and sources for growth metrics so performance can be consistently measured.
  • Use results to improve priorities, offers, pricing, channels and resource allocation.
